The National Safety Council (NSC) is a nonprofit safety advocate/organization. Created over 100 years ago, the Council works to eliminate the leading causes of preventable death and injury in the workplace and on the roadway.
The NSC founded National Safety Month in 1996. Recognized in June each year, National Safety Month raises awareness of safety hazards and unintentional injuries.
In 1921, the NSC published its first statistical summary, “An Analysis of Public Accidents.” As the scope of the publication expanded, its various titles reflected the changing content. Known as “Accident Facts” from 1927 through 1998, the title changed to “Injury Facts” in 1999 as part of the Council’s effort to communicate that unintentional injuries are preventable.
Today, “Injury Facts” is an online resource of the Council, providing a comprehensive and reliable account of preventable injuries and death for the United States and the world.
According to the Council, in 2020 the U.S. experienced:
• 200,955 preventable deaths
• 55.4 million injuries
• $1.15 billion in related costs
The Tri-State/Service Group works continuously to improve safety performance–evaluating and refining processes daily–with a zero injury and illness goal through their safety program “Working. Safe.”
